Advocacy and Public Policy Agenda
A Message from Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest
As the election season comes to a close, we recognize the heightened feelings of many on both sides. After a divisive election it is important to continue the great work of caring for the needs of our neighbors and amplifying the voices of those most impacted by decisions made in government. It is more important now than ever to come together, recognize opinions, validate feelings, and work across differences.

Bishop Hutterer: A Message of Peace and Hope after the Election
“Christ, our peace,
you break down the walls that divide us;
Christ, our peace,
come, make us one body in you.”
— Christ, Our Peace | All Creation Sings, 1037

As I reflect on the election results in our nation and in our swing-states synod, I recognize that emotions across our communities are varied and deeply felt. For some, there is joy and hope; for others, uncertainty and worry. In this moment, we turn our gaze once again toward Jesus, our unchanging source of comfort and strength in uncertain times.
LAMA Update:
What’s this about the new Bonhoeffer movie? — Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona. Due to concern that the forthcoming film is a production of Christian Nationalism and casts an inaccurate portrayal of Martin Luther and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, this piece opens with a comment from Grand Canyon Synod Bishop Deborah Hutterer and includes further information about the film and about Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Rev. Colleen Windham-Hughes at Ascension, November 9, North Scottsdale United Methodist Church, 9:30-11:30, with brunch and/or 1:00-3:00 with tea. Windham-Hughes, ordained in both the Lutheran and Methodist traditions, will speak to commonalities across these traditions – a timely topic given Ascension’s sharing of church facilities with North Scottsdale Methodist Church.
