God has given New Journey Lutheran Church a mission to be “an instrument of God’s love for all”. Flowing from this mission, we proclaim ourselves to be an Open and Affirming worshipping community. This means we welcome people of every race, culture, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, ability, and economic status into the ministry we share. Our commitment is to the work of equity, especially racial equity, and we strive to make antiracist choices in all areas of our life together. We believe that through radical hospitality and openness, we grow in our faith through Christ’s teaching to love one another as God loves us.
Did you know that one of the primary reasons New Journey Lutheran Church formed as a worshipping community was in support of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's (ELCA) 2009 Churchwide Assembly vote to open the ministry of the church to partnered gay and lesbian pastors and other professional workers living in committed relationships? You can read more about that decision here.
Land Acknowlegement
We acknowledge that the land on which we gather today is the ancestral and traditional homeland of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. These Indigenous communities have cared for this land for generations, and their rich cultural heritage continues to shape the region. We honor their deep connection to this land, their enduring presence, and their resilience.
We recognize the history of displacement and the ongoing struggles of Native peoples, and we commit to respecting their rights, supporting their communities, and amplifying their voices. May we all work toward a future of greater understanding, healing, and justice.
