President’s Perspective | October 2024

It’s that time of year on Church Council for the planning of our Mission Spending Plan for next year. Numbers will be crunched, discussions will begin on what are the priorities for our future and we will begin to pray and listen to God’s voice that is always filled with wisdom as vast as the years of time.

Can we truly separate church business from God’s business?

God’s business is all encompassing. The vastness of our world and beyond. What a grand business to be in which lovingly cares for our world, making the sun shine, the rain to fall and the moon and the stars to light the dark skies.

And then God’s eye focuses on the smallest of creatures in his creation to the most complicated of all, human beings. Forever forgiving us, encouraging us, challenging and celebrating with us. What a gift to have God’s eye on us!

We, the church, take on the task of caring for one another and the planet we live on. Reaching out to the most vulnerable to offer nourishment with sack lunches and filling our food bank container with needed items. Praying for others in need of care and comfort and hope. Reaching our arms out to hug and support anyone who might be hurting. Lovingly creating quilts to be given away to those in need of a warm and soft embrace from those who care about others, even the stranger.

The word, business, isn’t the correct word at all is it? If we are honest, we are doing God’s work in the world which isn’t a business at all but a mission that transcends all in favor of serving one another with love, compassion, and hope so that we can change lives for the better.

Our Mission Spending Plan for 2025 will be shared soon with all of you. Meanwhile, please pray for Council members as we discern where God is calling us to serve and how for we are “church together”. Amen!
