Embracing the Lenten Challenge: Four Practices to Deepen Your Journey

As we enter the season of Lent, many of us seek ways to deepen our spiritual journey and connect more meaningfully with our faith. The Lenten Challenge offers a structured approach to this, focusing on four key practices that can transform our daily lives. Here’s how you can participate:

1. Daily Devotion

Start your day with a moment of reflection and spiritual nourishment. By subscribing to daily email devotions from Pastor Bill Dohle or using the ELCA World Hunger weekly devotions, you can receive thoughtful insights and prayers that guide you through each day of Lent. These devotions are designed to inspire and uplift, helping you stay connected to your faith.

2. Daily Dedication

Engage with your community through activities centered around water. Whether it’s participating in worship services, joining a Bible study, or organizing water-related events, this practice encourages communal involvement and awareness. Water is a powerful symbol in many religious traditions, and dedicating time to these activities can deepen your understanding and appreciation of this vital resource.

3. Daily Diligence

Focus on water conservation in your daily life. Simple actions like drinking tap water instead of bottled water, avoiding single-use plastics, and educating yourself about local water resources can make a significant impact. This practice not only promotes environmental stewardship but also aligns with the broader goals of sustainability and care for creation.

4. Daily Donation

Consider making a financial commitment to support those in need. The Lenten Challenge suggests donating $1 a day (or more) for the 40 days of Lent to support the Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission through Lutheran Disaster Response. This act of generosity can help provide essential resources and support to communities facing challenges related to water access and quality.

By committing to three out of these four practices, you can create a meaningful and transformative Lenten experience. Each practice offers a unique way to engage with your faith, your community, and the world around you. As you embark on this journey, may you find inspiration, growth, and a deeper connection to your spiritual path.
