President’s Perspective

Why the color blue for Advent?

As you may have noticed our worship space is filled with the color blue for Advent. The color blue’s definition means; trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith and intelligence. Wow! That conjures up a lot of emotions, thoughts, and ideas!

God in his “wisdom” painted the skies blue and the oceans and lakes too! We “trust” that God knows what he is doing to help calm our weary souls.

As we gaze out upon a blue body of water; be it a lake or an ocean, we can drink in it’s healing balm. We can let that feeling settle into our body and souls.

In the Arizona desert, where our church location lives, we are fortunate to have a lake right down the street. We can walk around it as we greet those we meet with a smile. Or find a bench to sit upon and relax as we gaze out over the blue waters waiting to see the tall fountain gush forth reaching up to the blue sky.

Renew your “faith” as you anticipate the coming of our Lord by reading scripture, reach out to friends with a cheery visit or volunteer somewhere. Blue is a “stable” color… as in the manger? Why maybe it’s just that! I’m confident that the color “blue” will calm and settle you into God’s presence. The “stable” in Bethlehem is on the horizon! Our hope awaits us!

In Christ’s service,

Cindi Brady
