NEVC Hike in Honor of World Water Day & Lenten Challenge

It was a beautiful day for the Northeast Valley Consortium (NEVC) sponsored Lenten “Walk for Water”. As a planned activity for the 40-40-40- Lenten Challenge over 30 people gathered at a trailhead at the McDowell Mountain Preserve. They represented the five congregations of the NEVC coming together in friendship and to acknowledge World Water Day.

Amidst water scarcity and worldwide challenges for clean water, walkers gave thanks for the many blessings of water in God’s creation. Pr. Beth Gallen of New Journey Lutheran in Fountain Hills and Pr. Anna Reike of Christ the Lord Lutheran in Carefreeledd those gathered in a litany ofwater-basedd petitions and prayer. At the walk’s completion each participant was offered a sprinkle of water and a parting blessing. A desert walk and a blessing received. What a great way to begin the day!

Funds raised from the walk support the Navajo Lutheran Evangelical Mission(NELM) water project in Rock Point, Arizona. NELM is also designated to receive all donations of the 40-40-40  Lenten Challenge through Lutheran World Relief. We eagerly look to the day when all our Navajo sisters and brothers have access to safe, potable water.
