Often when pastors get together in summer months, they comment on how financial giving has dropped as people take vacation and their hope that once again this year giving will increase in the Fall to make up for the summer. I am happy to let you know that we have experienced no such drop this year. Because of your commitment and faithful giving, our income is slightly ahead of our expenses through the first six months of the year. Please take a look at the financial summary provided by New Journey’s Treasurer, Elaine Pameditis. Thank you for your regular giving that allows us to meet our expenses for the building in which we worship and the ministry that continues year-round. And thank you to everyone who works hard to keep our expenses in line.
A couple of words about what is going on in the next couple of months to prepare us for the Fall’s stewardship emphasis: In August, the Church Council and other lay leaders of the congregation will participate in a planning meeting led by John Stoss. At the end of that meeting, we will have established priorities for our ministry together in 2020 and 2021. We will share those priorities with you in September. Then in October, the Council will share a proposed budget for 2020 that is in line with those priorities. We will focus on the congregation’s response to that budget through our Commitment Sunday in November. In December, we will make any adjustments necessary to the proposed budget based on the commitments made by members. And in January, we will meet together at our Annual Meeting and adopt a budget that will take us through 2020.
Why talk about all of this now when we are only half way through 2019? First, to let your know that your generous response to the financial needs of the congregation is making a difference. Notice that there is not a need for a mid-year appeal for additional giving this year. I know we all feel good about that! And secondly, to remember that our financial stewardship is a year-round process. It takes all of us keeping up our commitments throughout the year so that ministry is supported year-round. It takes all of us keeping an eye on where we are with our finances so that we can respond quickly if the need arises.
I am grateful to be in ministry with you at New Journey. I am grateful for your faithful witness to the grace of God in Jesus through your worship and your service. I am grateful for the support you provide to the ministry of New Journey through your prayers, and your commitments of time, talent and treasure.
Blessings. . .
